There are a number of great ways to search for your first job. Start by using your networking skills—think about who you know (family, friends, coaches, etc.) who may be able to tell you about places that are hiring or good places to look locally. From there begin to look through other job postings.
Don’t be afraid to walk into businesses, like a store at the mall or a restaurant, and ask if they’re hiring. If they are, they will give you an application and may even ask you to fill it out on the spot! Business owners like to see people take initiative and see who can sell themselves.
If you are new to the workforce or you’ve never had a paid job before, apply for entry level jobs that match your skills. Are you good with people? Apply to be a hostess or a salesperson. Do you enjoy cooking and food? Apply to be a line cook or a waiter or waitress. Do you enjoy reading? Check with your local library or book store.
And while there are opportunities to match everyone’s interests, don’t be afraid to take a chance on something different. You never know, you might discover a new passion. Most importantly, you will meet new people and one or more of them may be of help as you grow.
